The compressor is one of the crucial components in the ice making machine. It is responsible for compressing low-temperature, low-pressure steam gas into high-temperature, high-pressure gas to provide power for the refrigeration cycle.
Start and compress:
Compressors are usually driven by electric motors, and when the electric motor starts, the compressor also starts running. First, low-temperature, low-pressure steam gas enters the suction port of the compressor. At this stage, the gas is usually ammonia, Freon, or another refrigerant, and its goal is to undergo compression and expansion multiple times throughout the cycle, completing the ice-making process.
Compression process:
Once the sucked gas enters the compressor, it is compressed to a higher pressure and temperature. This is accomplished by passing the gas through mechanical components such as rotating or reciprocating pistons within the compressor. This process causes the distance between the gas molecules to decrease, making them denser. As the movement of gas molecules is affected by mechanical work, its temperature and pressure rise to a higher level.
Discharge heat:
During compression, the gas heats up due to the heat generated by mechanical work. This heat needs to be removed to prevent the compressor from overheating. To achieve this, the compressor is usually connected to a condenser, which transfers the generated heat to the external environment. In the condenser, the gas cools and gradually condenses into a liquid.
High pressure state:
After the compression process, the gas reaches a high-pressure state. This is to ensure that in the subsequent expansion valve and evaporator stages, the refrigerant can effectively release the absorbed heat, causing water or other liquids to solidify into ice in the evaporator.
Sent to evaporator:
The high-pressure, high-temperature gas is finally sent to the evaporator through a piping system connected to the evaporator. In the evaporator, the gas expands and absorbs heat from the external environment, causing the liquid in the evaporator to cool and solidify, eventually forming ice.
